Aankum artist Rosella Namok paints her country and tells stories of traditional Aboriginal culture in her own distinctive and very contemporary style.

The painting titles above communicate something of the content of this exhibition of twelve large works giving, as they do, a verbal window into life at Lockhart River on the east coast area of Cape York. Her joyful, close observation making for a beautiful celebration of land and sea and culture. At the age of 31 Rosella has an impressive record of solo and group exhibitions both in Australia and overseas and an extensive bibliography. She is represented in national and international collections and many private collections and has been the recipient of significant awards, including in 2003, The High Court of Australia Centenary Art Prize, the Australian Bar Association/The High Court of Australia, Canberra and in 2000 the Lin Onus Youth Award- Fifth National Indigenous Heritage Art Awards. Following our 2008 Cape to Cove exhibition we talked with Rosella about a further solo show in 2 years time and we’re very pleased to be able to bring her work to Perth audiences a second time.
