This exhibition features works from the Janet Holmes à Court Collection which depict particular places in the south-west and great-southern areas of Western Australia.

Featured alongside these, are the works of Noongar and Yorga artists who were invited to participate in the exhibition by responding with their own depictions of the same places.

This exhibition is a beginning of sorts, to come to terms with some of the true history of our being in these places. I invited Noongar and Yorga artists of the Bibbulman Nation to participate by responding to the place-named collection works by including a work of their own that spoke in some way about one of these places. What they have included here are works that depict land, surface and movement, atmosphere, colour and light of places. They share experience and history and cold, hard facts, reach back to stories of a dreamtime creation past, reiterate and remind of a continuing presence of a people moving through the land, changing and moving with the times but not changing in substance and essence.

About this place brings together a few conversations. There is room for many more.
