Dr Dorothy Erickson AM has just been named as a Western Australian State Cultural Treasure at a function held at the WA Museum Boola Bardip on Monday 24th of November, 2024.
This has rounded up of a year of accomplishment for Erickson; renowned Western Australian jeweller and art and design writer.
January – Erickson was awarded an Order of Australia in the General Division for ‘services to jewellery design and the arts in Western Australia’.
February – Erickson held a solo exhibition of new work Hesperia at Artsite Galleries in Sydney. This had been developed during a period funded by the Western Australian Department for Local Government, Sport and Culture in 2022.
March – June – Erickson had a retrospective exhibition Dorothy Erickson Piu di Cinquanta: celebrating fifty-five years of designing and making jewellery mounted at the Art Gallery of Western Australia. At this she was presented with her Design Institute of Australia Hall of Fame Award delayed from 2020 because of Covid.
September and October – Erickson took part in group exhibitions Syncopation and Reflect/Refract as part of the Indian Ocean Triennial of Arts. She also won the Williams Lee Steere Book Prize for her latest book Inspired by Light and Land: Designers and Makers in Western Australia 1970-21st Century published by the WA Museum.
November 2024 – January 2025 – Erickson has a solo exhibition Cinquanta+ at the Holmes à Court Gallery at Vasse Felix. This exhibition features an astonishing 70 pieces, across five different series of work.
That is more than enough for one year.
