Exploration and Transformation marked the inaugural exhibition for the Holmes à Court Gallery. The exhibition examined pre and post colonial works by artists who tracked the exploration and settlement of Australia, and whose imagery recorded, and in many instances, transformed this ‘newly discovered’ southern land, from the real to the ideal’.
Works from the Holmes à Court Collection that examine the myths and realities of early exploration through the eyes of artists who endeavoured to transform the real to the ideal.
Artists include: Frederick Garling, Frederick Clause, Robert Dale, Louis August de Sainson, Conrad Martens, William Westall and Horace Samson.
