Silk and pearls, lustre and colour combine in this unique collaboration between Kailis Australian Pearls and the Holmes à Court Gallery, with the dreamtime imagery of Utopia Silk Batiks from the Holmes à Court Collection.
A selection of fifteen silk batiks from the project, Utopia – A Picture Story, along with six unique jewellery collections inspired by their design elements and created especially by Kailis Australian Pearls’ Master Jeweller, Simon Henderson and his team, form the exhibition, silk .
In a perfect partnership of texture and colour, Kailis Australian Pearls is exhibiting its handcrafted Australian South Sea pearl creations alongside this collection of remarkable silk batik works by artists from the Utopia community in the eastern region of central Australia.
Eighty-eight Indigenous women artists (with the exception of one man) were involved in the Utopia – A Picture Story project, which was completed in 1988 and now exhibiting works for the first time at the gallery.
